Alan Simon is the Managing Principal of Precision Business Intelligence LLC, a Pennsylvania-based consultancy specializing in business intelligence, performance management, and data warehousing. The consultancy is expanding to the Phoenix, Arizona area in late 2008 to further serve western U.S. clients, and will be rebranded with a new company name in late Q1 2009.

Alan is a recognized authority on the subjects of business intelligence, data warehousing, and enterprise-scale information management. He has held global or national VP-level positions with several firms in the past decade including Business Objects, Alliance Consulting, and Cambridge Technology Partners. He was also a member of the global data warehousing leadership team at Deloitte Consulting where he specialized in applying next-generation architectural principles and technologies to business intelligence environments. He is the author of 27 books, including Data Warehousing for Dummies, 90 Days to the Data Mart, How to be a Successful Computer Consultant, and Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence for E-Commerce. He regularly speaks at conferences, seminars and private client events and is known for his engaging and thought-provoking perspectives on the technology disciplines in which he specializes.

Prior to Cambridge, Alan worked in a variety of consulting roles as an independent consultant and later as data warehousing practice leader for CoreTech Consulting Group, a Philadelphia-based regional consulting firm. From 1987 to 1991 Alan was a member of Digital Equipment Corporation’s Database Systems Group as both a developer of data modeling tools and later as a senior product manager for distributed database management systems.

Alan’s personal clients have included McDonald’s Corporation, PNC Bank, Pitney Bowes, Coca-Cola, SmithKline Beecham, Novartis, Quaker Oats, SC Johnson Wax, US Steel, CoreStates Bank, Lehman Brothers, Bankers Trust, Gap, and various federal, state and county government agencies (as well as several confidential clients). His client work emphasizes enterprise-scale business intelligence /data warehousing strategy, architecture, and roadmaps; program and project management best practices; adoption of next-generation technologies for business intelligence needs; and critical reviews of clients’ architectures, development plans, and other project artifacts.
